CHAMPAIGN, Ill.-Memphis track and field squads got to work in their first indoor meet of the season, on Saturday, at the Illini Classic. In the team scored meet, the Memphis women (93 points) took second place overall. Host school Illinois (159 points) placed first overall, with Northern Illinois (73.50) taking third.

In the 60m, DaQuanya Byrd-West picked up six points for the Tigers, with a third place finish in the 60m of 7.71. Bryd-West also notched two team points in the 200m placing ninth at 25.82.

Monica Mason and Destinee Lansden recorded a combined six points in the 400m. Lansden scored four points placing seventh (58.38), with Mason notching two points by placing ninth (58.60).

Maya Williamson took first in the 800m scoring 10 points with a time of 2:10.59. Freshman Martina Rodriguez added to the team total with three points in the mile run finishing eighth at 5:02.92. Williamson, Mason, Lansden and Meghan Christensen picked up another two points in the 4 x 400m relay with a 10th place finish of 3:59.93.

Moving to field events, Laura Toldy scored one point in the high jump with a ninth place finish of 1.56m (5'1.25"). In the long jump, Sydney Wright added two to the team total with a ninth place finish of 5.24m (17'2.25"). Fellow jumper and freshman Chardae Greenlee put 10 more points on the board in the triple jump, with a second place leap of 11.49m (37'8.5").

Clara Amat Fernandez and Sabrin Hochreuther each scored big in the pole vault. Amat Fernandez placed first at a height of 3.85m (12'7.5") for 10 points, with Hochreuther taking second at 3.80m (12'5.5") for eight points.

Tigers picked up a total of 15 points in the shot put. Vivian Brandhoff scored 10 with a third place throw of 14.69m (48'2.5"), an indoor personal-best for the junior. Senior Britta Jaarats followed-up with five points finishing sixth at 14.05m (46'1.25).

In the weight throw, the Tigers scored big again tallying 18 points. Cyarra Wells notched 10 taking second place with a mark of 17.83m (58'6"), Jaarats added eight more taking third at 17.53m (57'5.26").
