CARBONDALE, Ill. - After day one of the McDonald's Invitational at Southern Illinois the Memphis men and women's track teams sit in second and first place respectively. Each team competed in three events Friday with the Lady Tigers taking home an event title.

On the women's side, Whitney Bolton equaled her indoor best in the pole vault with a height of 10-11.75 to earn her first first-place finish of the season.

Senior Gail Lee performed well in the women's weight throw coming in with a mark of 61-8, just under her season best of 62-6.5. The Fort Worth native came away with a second-place finish in the event behind world record holder Brittany Riley.

Several other Lady Tigers also turned in impressive performances. Nikole Jackson finished third in the weight with a season best 52-10. Eryka Morris hit a mark of 18-0.25 in the women's long jump, which is a team long for the Lady Tigers this season.

On the men's side, senior Brandon Winbush took second in the men's long jump, finishing just below his best distance of year with a mark of 22-11.

In the men's weight throw Steffen Nerdal led the Tigers for a third straight week with a toss of 59-1. Pole vaulter Brian Prackett got his first height of the season, clearing 13-1 for a third place finish.

Competition will resume at noon tomorrow with all of the running events on the day's slate. The Memphis distance medley relay team, led by new Lady Tiger mile record-holder Tina Sherratt, will look to improve on their school record from a week ago.
