NOTRE DAME, Ind.-Memphis track and field athletes returned to action for day two of the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame University, on Saturday. The Tigers finished the meet with a new program record and new individual personal bests.
In the women's 4 x 400m relay, Monica Mason, Kala Funderburk, Keyona Neal and Maya Williamson broke their own program-record with a time of 3:42.69 taking fourth place. This surpassed their previous program-best of 3:44.35 set at the Kentucky Invitational earlier this season.
"I'm very proud of Keyona, Monica, Maya, and Kala as they lowered the school record in the 4x400 relay again," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. "That group of girls is poised to do something really special come championship meet time. I'm very proud of their development, both mentally and physically."
Brandon Williams set a new personal-best in the men's 400m with a time of 48.73 (26th place). Williams previous best in the event was 49.13 set at the McCravy Invitational (1/26/13).
James Maglasang (4:15.44), Austin Carter (4:20.85) and Julien Wolf (4:23.87) took 30th, 52nd and 58th overall in the men's mile run. Carter's time of 4:20.85 was a new personal best for the sophomore. Louisa Lingley finished 28th in women's 800m in a time of 5:01.94.
In day one of the meet on Friday, Wolf, Williams, Fayne and Maglasang finished second in the men's distance medley with a time of 10:01.31. The Memphis women took seventh place in the event as the team of Taylor, Funderburk, Williamson and Lingley checked in with time of 12:00.95.
"I thought James and Louisa ran well and I'm confident that they will continue to improve," Robinson said." I felt that although our men's distance medley relay finished with a solid showing, we are capable of running faster in three weeks."
