BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Memphis track and field teams continued a string of strong performances this weekend at the Hoosier Relays, with a number of Memphis athletes coming away with top marks. Heading that group was Daniele Riendeau, who smashed her own 3000m record while leading the women's distance medley relay team to another school-best mark.
Riendeau eclipsed her previous record by over 20 seconds, logging a time of 9:48.95 to place second in the 3000m. The junior then aided in a second record as she helped the DMR team, which also featured Emily Malinowski, Meghan Shinkwin and Ashley Stewart, to a school-record time of 12:09.19. The mark bettered the previous record of 12:26.84, set in 1998.
The U of M also saw top-eight finishes from eight additional athletes, with J.D. Erickson leading the way with two top-five showings. The senior set a personal record of 61-02.00" (18.64m) in a fourth-place finish in the weight throw, adding a fifth-place tally in the shot put with a throw of 55-00.25" (16.77m).
Brandon Winbush had a slightly sub-par performance in the long jump, but still placed third with an effort of 22-09.00" (6.93m). The junior also logged a season-best in the triple jump with a mark of 45-07.25" (13.90m).
Malinowski finished just behind Riendeau in the 3000m registering a time of 10:03.76, to log the second-fastest mark in U of M women's history and place fourth.
Willie Green placed fifth in the 60m with a time of 6.85s after clocking a personal-best time of 6.78s in the second round to reach the finals.
Susan King continued her solid performances in the shot put, as the junior posted a personal best throw of 49-00.25" (14.94m) in the prelims before finishing fourth in the finals with a mark of 47-10.00" (14.58m).
Sivan Aballi added a personal best of her own in the shot put, but her mark of 46-05.50" (14.16m) came in the finals, propelling the sophomore to a seventh-place finish.
Sophomore Chen Edri finished sixth in the high jump with a season-best clearance of 5-04.25" (1.63m).
Freshman Whitney Bolton finished sixth in the open pole vault with an effort of 10-06.00" (3.20m), again tying her school record for the event.
The U of M also got several additional personal and season-best efforts over the course of the two-day meet.
Annette Uzoh set a personal record of 53-09.75" (16.40m) in the prelims of the weight throw, but fell off slightly in the finals, to finish 10th. LaShunda Flake set two PRs, posting a time of 7.71s in an 11th-place finish in the 60m, while logging a time of 25.63 in the 200m. Gaylon Muhammod registered a personal best by over a foot in the triple jump with a leap of 36-11.00" (11.25m), while Carrie Corbett added a PR of 10:41.09 in the 3000m, finishing 17th.
The Tigers' 4x400m relay team also posted a season-best time of 4:21.36 to finish eighth.
The U of M track and field squads are scheduled to be out of action next weekend, but there is a possibility that at least portions of the teams could pick up an extra meet. The next scheduled competitions are the EIU Friday Night Special and the SEMO Invitational, which are scheduled for Friday, February 17, and Saturday, February 18, respectively.
