@MemTigersTF_XC Women Finish Strong in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-The University of Memphis women’s track and field team competed at the Cupid Classic, hosted by Southern Miss, on Friday.
Maya Williamson notched her third 800m title of the season taking first in a time of 2:07.45. Three other Tigers notched top-10 finishes in the event with Martina Rodriguez (2:12.17), Jenny Johnston (2:13.92) and Julia Merbach (2:14.86) placing fourth, seventh and eighth respectively.
In other track events, DaQuanya Byrd-West ran a season-best in the 60m of 7.66 to place fifth. Destinee Landsden placed 11th in the 200m with a personal-best of 24.81, with Byrd-West taking 24th at 25.54.
Monica Mason was Memphis’ top finisher in the 400m placing 13th in a time of 56.89. As the Tigers’ lone competitor in the 3,000m, Alisha Fitch placed 19th in a time of 10:40.01. In the 4 x 400m relay, Memphis placed fifth at 4:00.41 with the team of Merbach, Taylor Kriha, Johnston and Rodriguez.
Moving to field events, Sydney Wright was Memphis’ top finisher in the long jump placing 39th with a mark of 5.15m (16-10.75). In the triple jump, Chardae Greenlee placed 17th with a distance of 11.40m (37’5”). In the high jump, Laura Toldy took fifth with a leap of 1.60m (5’5”).
In the pole vault, Carolina Carmichael and Clara Amat-Fernandez placed in order 12th and 13th with both athletes clearing a final height of 3.80m (12’5.5”). Kimi Jennings tied for 20th with a personal-best height of 3.50m (11’5.75”).
Cyarra Wells took second in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 18.52m (60’9.25”). Jaarats placed seventh with a throw of 17.19m (56’4.75”).
