MEMPHIS, Tenn. - In a pair of tune-ups just a week prior to C-USA Championships, the Memphis track and field teams saw a number of quality showings, as four throwers improved their marks at the SEMO Invitational, while two distance runners picked up top finishes at the LSU Twilight Invitational.

Likely the most notable performance came from sophomore thrower Annette Uzoh, who posted a tremendous effort in the weight throw, setting a new personal-best for the event by three and one-half feet with a mark of 56-11.50". The mark was good enough for third place in the weight, while the San Antonio, Texas native also logged an indoor-best effort of 41-06.50" in the shot put to place seventh.

Fellow thrower Susan King added two personal records of her own, registering a toss of 50-00.00" in the shot put and a toss of 55-11.25" in the weight throw to place second and fourth, respectively. In addition, Nikole Jackson recorded a personal best of 41-08.00" in the shot put, finishing sixth, while adding a fifth-place toss of 53-01.75" in the weight throw.

On the men's side, J.D. Erickson did not increase upon his best marks for the season, but did pick up two victories in the weight throw and shot put. The senior won the weight with a mark of 60-08.75" and the shot with a mark of 54-07.50".

The remaining thrower to better his top marks on the year was Norbert Gulyas, who posted a personal-best mark of 51-05.75" in the weight and a season-best mark of 53-07.50" in the shot. The junior finished second to Erickson in both events.

At the LSU Twilight Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., Daniele Riendeau was the top finisher for the Lady Tigers, as she placed second in the 1-Mile with a time of 5:06.37. Fellow distance runner Carrie Corbett claimed the team's second-highest finish, placing third in the 3000m with a personal-best time of 10:39.91.

In other action at the SEMO Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Mo., freshman Whitney Bolton placed third in the pole vault, equaling her school-record mark of 10-06.00" for the fourth-consecutive meet.

Sivan Aballi put forth a solid effort in the shot put, finishing in fourth place with a throw of 45-09.25".

Brandon Winbush finished second in the long jump with a leap of 22-01.00", while also placing fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 43-08.50".

Fellow jumper Richard Swaby put up a season-best effort in the long jump, tying for fourth place with a leap of 19-09.75".

In Baton Rouge, Mary Claire Dake, competing in her first indoor meet, logged a time of 11:19.90 in the 3000m to place sixth. Josetta Brooks placed sixth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.05s. LaShunda Flake placed tenth in the 60m with a time of 7.78s and Meghan Shinkwin finished tenth in the 800m with a time of 2:22.49.
