Houston, Texas-- -
The University of Memphis women's track team is tied for eighth following
the first day of competition, but the Lady Tigers may already be sending
one student-athlete to the NCAA Indoor Championships. Junior Kameilah
Amaya (Carbondale, Ill.) provisionally qualified with a toss of 18.05
meters (59-2.75), Friday.
Amaya finished second in the weight throw, breaking her own school
record of 56-4 from last season in the process. This is the first time
Amaya has hit the provisionally-qualifying mark of 17.70 meters in her career.
Freshman Keenan Gibson advanced from her heat of the 200-meter
preliminary to Saturday's final with a time of 24.95. Gibson won her
heat in the 200 and finished third in her heat in the 60-meter dash with
a time 7.60.
Junior Emily Mayer also broke her own school record when she cleared
