March 1, 2013
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- Five Memphis field event athletes made one final push to qualify for the 2013 NCAA Indoor National Championships, on Friday, at the Arkansas Final Qualifier. The competing Tigers needed to secure a mark that would rank in the top-16 on the tfrrs.org NCAA Division I Qualifying List.
Manuel Ziegler notched a personal-best of 15.86m (52'.5") in the men's triple jump. The mark currently sits inside the top-16 on the NCAA Division I Qualifying List tying for 14th. It will not be known until Monday, at the earliest, if the mark will qualify Ziegler.
Austin Crenshaw notched a new personal-best in the men's pole vault clearing a height of 5.30m (17'4.5"). Fellow vaulter Pauls Pujats finished at height of 5.15m (16'10.75").In the women's pole vault, Sabrina Hochreuther set a program-record clearing a height of (13'2.5"). Teammate Clara Amat Fernandez, also seeking a post-season berth, was able to clear 3.93m (12'10.75").
Hochreuther surpassed the program-record of 3.94m (12'11"), that both Hochreuther and Amat Fernandez cleared at the Conference USA Indoor Championships a week earlier. Unfortunately, none of the marks by Memphis athletes in the men's and women's pole vault were able to secure positions inside the top-16 on the NCAA Division I Qualifying List.
