@MemTigersTF_XC Women Open Outdoor Season at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss.-The University of Memphis women’s track and field team kicked-off the outdoor season, on Saturday, at the Ole Miss Open. The Tigers recorded four first place finishes in their first outdoor meet of 2014.
In the 100m, DaQuanya Byrd-West took seventh at 12.12. Destinee Landsden and Byrd-West then tied for eighth in the 200m with both Tigers turning in a time of 25.23.
In distance events, Memphis notched three top-10 finishes in the 1,500m. Martina Rodriguez (4:40.41), Jenny Johnston (4:44.70) and Julia Merbach (4:47.16) placed fourth, fifth and seventh respectively. Running in the 4 x400m relay, Johnston, Rodriguez, Merbach and Laura Toldy took fourth in a time of 4:01.22.
Moving to field events, Toldy took the high jump title clearing the bar at 1.70m (5’7”). In the pole vault, Clara Amat-Fernandez took first at a height of 4.00m (13’1.5”), with Kimi Jennings and Ofelia Carmichael placing fifth and sixth at heights of 3.55m (11’7.75”) for Jennings and 3.40m (11’1.75”) for Carmichael.
Chardae Greenlee placed second the triple jump with a mark of 12.04m (39’6”). Greenlee also took home a top-10 in the long jump placing ninth at 5.39m (17’8.25”).
In the hammer throw, Britta Jaarats took first with a mark of 46.38m (152’2”), with Vivian Brandhoff taking second with a throw of 45.97m (150’10”). Brandoff also placed fourth in the discus at 40.35m (132’4”).
