Oxford, Miss. - While some athletes of the University of Memphis track and field squad traveled to the John McDonnell Invitational, most of the squad made the short trip to Oxford, Miss. for the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex.

Three-time All-American Steffen Nerdal continued to collect first place finishes as he took home the individual honors in the hammer throw with a throw of 67.33m (220-11). The Norwegian was joined in the top-five by junior Knut Syversen who finished fourth with a throw of 56.65m (185-10). Nerdal also threw in the discus throw and finished seventh with a mark of 52.40m (171-11).

The veteran throwers for Memphis continued to collect top-10 performances as senior Seth Major finished second in the shot put. Major posted his best finish of the season with a season-best mark of 16.56m (54-04.00). Freshman Andrew Miller joined the top-10 with a seventh-place and personal-best throw of 15.71m (51-06.50).

Sophomore pole vaulter Karlis Pujats collected his third-straight top-five finish with a fourth place showing, clearing 5.05m (16-06.75). Lady Tiger freshman pole vaulter Lauren Gale collected her third top-10 finish in four meets with a tenth place finish on Saturday with a vault of 3.35m (10-11.75).

Freshman Kirsten Berding and sophomore Vivian Haynes each finished in the top-10 in the women's high jump. Berding finished seventh with a jump of 1.61m (5-03.25) with Haynes finishing ninth with a leap of 1.56m (5-01.25).

In the men's 110m hurdles, junior Preston Williams finished tied for eighth, crossing the finish line in 15.29 seconds.

Sophomore Keyona Neal collected her third top-10 finish of the outdoor season. Crossing the finish line in 55.23 seconds, Neal finished 10th for the Lady Tigers.

Junior jumper Jerome Leslie finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.34m (47-00.75). In the high jump, Leslie finished fifth with a personal-best mark of 2.00m (6-06.75).

The Tigers will return to the track next weekend as they host the second annual Memphis Tiger Invitational on Fri., Apr. 16 and Sat., Apr. 17 at the Billy J. Murphy Track and Field Complex.
