Rahn Breaks Memphis Record in the Heptathlon
April 15, 2012
OXFORD, Miss.- Xenia Rahn, Laura Toldy and and Quaniqua Jones took second, third and eighth respectively in the women's heptathlon at the Mississippi Open on Sunday. Rahn set a new program record accumulating 5,047 points. "Xenia did a great job over the last two days," said head coach Kevin Robinson. "This is her first heptathlon in a Tiger uniform, and she represented us very well. Laura also did a great job. I also want to recognize Quaniqua's effort, if she doesn't no-height in the high jump, then she would also have scored quite well." The freshman broke Victoria Crawford's 2004 program-record of 4,849 points set in 2004. In the individual events that comprise the heptathlon, Rahn finished fifth in the 100m hurdles (14.87), second in the high jump with a new personal-best (1.68m), second in the shot put (11.67m), seventh in the 200m dash (27.12), second in the long jump (5.36m), second in the javelin throw (40.28m) and fifth in the 800m run with a new personal-best (2:30.70). Toldy placed third overall with 4,661 points. The sophomore took eighth in the 100m hurdles (16.29), third in the high jump (1.65m), fifth in the shot put with a new personal-best (10.17m), sixth in the 200m dash with a new personal-best (26.63), third in the long jump (5.29m), seventh in the javelin throw (28.53m) and second in the 800m run (2:20.72). Jones took eighth overall racking up 4,004 points. The junior from Hampton, Va., placed second in the 100m hurdles (14.33), seventh in the shot put (10.02m), third in the 200m dash (25.48), fourth in the long jump (5.14m), ninth in the javelin (27.14m) and sixth in the 800m run (2:31.24). Jones recorded no-height in the high jump and did not place to record points in the event. Memphis track and field squads return to action next Friday when they travel to Auburn, Ala. for the War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn University.
