Women's Track Wraps up Weekend at LSU Invite

Baton Rouge, La.-- - The University of Memphis women's track team finished their weekend at the LSU Alumni Gold Track and Field Invite with another win in the hammer throw by junior Kameilah Amaya (Carbondale, Ill.).

Amaya won the event with a Conference USA best mark of 51.0 meters (167-4). Amaya was ranked fourth in the league in the hammer prior to this weekend's meet.

The sprint corps had some stiff competition at the meet, but senior Natalie Martindale (Kingstown, Jamaica) finished 12th in the 100-meter dash in 12.02 as well as tying for ninth in the 200 with a time of 24.62. Sophomore Melissa Abraham (Houston, Texas) finished tied for 15th in the 100 in 12.21 seconds in her first meet since joining the track team following the completion of the Lady Tiger basketball season.

Senior Carla Ross (Brownsville, Tenn.) posted her best 400 time of the season, winning her heat and finishing with an eighth place finish in 56.48.

Freshman Julie Wright (McDonald, Ohio) finished fourth in the 3000 meter run. Wright covered the distance in 11:47.54.

Freshman Monique Nelson (Freeport, Texas) was one of two Lady Tigers to finish in the top five in the shot put. Nelson finished fourth with a 13.32 meter put (43-8.50) while junior Carla Hardy (College Park, Ga.) finished fifth with a 13.07 meter finish (42-10.75). Hardy also finished third in the hammer with a season-best 45.68 meter (149-10) mark.

The Lady Tigers compete at Ole Miss next weekend.
