April 22, 2000

Oxford, Miss.-- - The Lady Tiger track team is starting to get some of its depth back after injuries and brought home a win and two second-place finishes in a series of duel meets at Ole Miss, Saturday.

Junior Carla Hardy (College Park, Ga./Bejamin Banneker) posted Memphis' lone win in the hammer throw with a mark of 145-3 feet.

Senior Carla Ross (Brownsville, TN/Haywood) led the Lady Tiger track onslaught with a second place finish in the 400-meter dash in 56.22 seconds. Sophomore Courtney Suggs (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) finished fifth in 58.02, while sophomore Wendy Ragle (Duncanville, Texas/Duncanville) finished 14th in 64.74 seconds, one of three events she ran on the day.

Ragle led the Memphis contingent in the 1500 meter run with a third place finish in 5:02.00. Freshman Julie Wright (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald), also a two-event competitor this weekend, finished sixth in 5:05.00. Wright led Memphis with a fifth place finish in the 800-meter run with her time of 2:21.64. Ragle finished seventh in 2:24.68, but her time does not count as a mix-up at the starting line meant her heat of the 800 only ran 791 meters.

Senior sprinter Natalie Martindale (Kingstown, Jamaica/St Josephs Convent) had another impressive weekend, finishing fourth in the 100 meter dash in 12.05 seconds and third in the 200 in 24.41. Sophomore Melissa Abraham (Houston, Texas/Westbury) finished sixth with a time of 24.94.

Junior Camille Harris (Nashville, TN/White's Creek) led the Lady Tiger hurdle crew with a fourth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.70) and a 10th-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:09.18. Junior Zaneta Ivy (Memphis, TN/Central) finished ninth in the 400 hurdles in 1:08.00.

The Lady Tiger field crew had another successful weekend. Junior Alex Delatour (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 17-8.75 feet while sophomore Monique Nelson (Pampa, Texas/Pampa) finished second in the shot (44-6.75 feet) and fifth in the discus (134-8).

Next up for Memphis is the Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville. That will be Memphis' final regular season meet before the Conference USA meet, May 11-13 in New Orleans.
