@MemTigersTF_XC Women Get Final Tune-Up at A-State

JONESBORO, Ark.-With the American Outdoor Championship one week away, the University of Memphis women’s track and field squad traveled to the A-State Red Wolves Open for a dress rehearsal, on Friday and Saturday.
On Saturday, DaQuanya Byrd-West took fourth in the 100m with a time of 11.98. Pulling double-duty, Bryd-West placed sixth in the 200m clocking at time of 24.85.
The Tigers notched a pair of top-five finishes in the 400m. Destinee Landsden (55.09) and Monica Mason (56.13) placed second and third respectively. In the 400m hurdles, Maya Williamson took second at 59.62.
The meet ran two divisions in the 800m with invite and open events. In the 800m invite, Martina Rodriuguez (2:12.70), Jenny Johnston (2:13.13) and Julia Merbach (2:14.32) placed fourth, fifth and seventh respectively. The 800m open saw the Tigers take two top-10 spots with Taylor Kriha (2:17.28) and Nandia Taylor (2:18.75) finishing in order fifth and seventh.
The Tigers placed first second and third in the pole vault. Carolina Carmichael took first at 4.12m (13’6.25”) with teammates Clara Amat-Fernandez and Sabrina Hochreuther clearing 4.02m to place second and third respectively.
Vivian Brandhoff and Britta Jaarats scored top-five finishes in the shot put. Brandhoff placed third at 14.92m (48’11.5”) with Jaarats landing in fifth with a distance of 14.67m (48’1.75”). Branhoff also took seventh in the discus with a throw of 45.80m (150’3”).
In action from Friday’s events, Erica Owen took fifth in the 3,000m steeplechase clocking a time of 12:10.59. In the hammer throw, Jaarats took 13th with a mark of 53.88m.
