Women's Track in 10th at End of Day Two

Tampa, Fla.--- - Led by a seventh-place finish from sophomore Monique Nelson (Freeport, Texas/Brazosport) in the discus in the only final event that Memphis had competitors in Friday, the Lady Tiger track team is 10th through two days of competition with 11 points. Nelson, one of two Lady Tigers to compete in a final heat, Friday, posted a best throw of 40.98 meters (134-5), to finish seventh and add two points to Memphis' team score. The Lady Tigers also qualified some individuals for the Saturday finals, where a majority of the running events will be scored. Freshman Keenan Gibson and junior Melissa Abraham qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash, while Gibson also qualified for the 200 finals with the second-fastest time of the day in 24.16. Freshman Shamieka Johnson (Pensacola, Fla./Woodham HS) also qualified for Saturday's finals in the 100-meter high hurdles when she tied for seventh with a time of 14.33. In the other hurdles event, senior Zaneta Ivy (Memphis, Tenn./ Central) also advanced to Saturday's finals by finishing eighth in the preliminary event with a time of 1:10.07.
