Freshmen Compete at USA Junior Outdoor Championships
DES MOINES, Iowa - University of Memphis track and field freshmen Godfrey Fayne and Taylor Krihacompeted in the 800-meter run Thursday afternoon at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, as Fayne took seventh place and Kriha grabbed 19th.
Fayne just missed qualifying for Friday night's finals after finishing third in his heat with a time of 1:52.43, just .03 seconds off his personal best. SUNY Buffalo's Tyler Scheving ran 1:51.98 to take the final qualifying spot as the top two athletes from each of the three heats and the next two fastest times automatically advanced to the finals.
On the women's side, Kriha posted her third-fastest time of the season with 2:14.66, finishing fifth in her heat.
The two wrapped up competitive freshmen campaigns for the Tigers. Fayne recorded the Tigers' fastest time this season in the 800 meters with 1:52.40, which he posted at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. He captured a first-place finish at the War Eagle Invite and had a runner-up showing at the Red Wolves Open. Kriha took home top-five finishes at the Louisiana Classics and the Ole Miss Invite with her personal best time of 2:11.94 coming down in Oxford.
