Cross country runs under the lights

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis men and women's cross country teams got its first chance to compete in the Bluff City, running the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic, hosted by Christian Brothers. The men's squad finished 21st, while the women earned a 16th-place spot. Freshman James Maglasang finished 32nd out of 264 runners, running the eight-kilometer race in 25:14.82. Maglasang's mark was sixth-best among freshmen who competed in the race. Sophomore Robert Skinner was the next-highest finisher for Memphis, turning in a 27:23.53 mark to finish 145th. Abdi Guleed (152nd) ran the race in 27:33.53, while Guy Hudson (158th) finished in 27:38.77. On the women's side, freshmen Ellen Kildal (19:08.92) and Jenny Johnston (19:09.42) finished 56th and 57th, respectively. Freshman Ida Fillingsnes finished 93rd with a 19:48.84 mark, while sophomore Louisa Lingley was 97th in the 256-woman field, finishing the race in 19:50.68. The Tiger runners will be in the area again next week, running the Rhodes Invitational at Shelby Farms, Saturday.
