Women's Cross Country Closes Season at NCAA South Regional

Memphis, Tenn.---The University of Memphis women's cross country team closed out its 2004 season Saturday at the NCAA South Regional Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Sophomore Daniele Riendeau, who has been the Lady Tigers' top performer throughout the season, led the squad once again, placing 41st in a time of 22:23 for the 6K race.
Becca McMahon was second on the team with a time of 23:44, while Mary Claire Dake was third in 23:54. Sarah Janecek and Kimberly McVeigh rounded out the top five for the U of M with times of 24:19 and 24:32 respectively. Each of the top five runners, all sophomores, set personal best 6K marks in the race. Nora Nemere and Heather Woolls also competed in the meet for Memphis, posting times of 25:17 and 29:20 respectively.
University of Auburn's Angela Homan took medalist honors in the race, with a time of 20:25, while Shannon Wommack of UT Chattanooga finished second in 20:27. In the team competition, the University of Tennessee grabbed the South Regional championship, with the University of Georgia placing second.
The Lady Tiger cross country runners will now turn their attention to the indoor track season, which is set to begin in just under a month.
