Women's Track Competes in Final Regular Season Indoor Meet

Carbondale, Ill.-- - The University of Memphis women's track team has begun preparations for the Conference USA Indoor Championships, but not before some fine tuning at the Saluki USA Open, Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Tigers again had a dominant showing in the field events. Junior Kameilah Amaya (Carbondale, Ill./Carbondale) took advantage of being home to finish third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.78 meters (51-9.25). Junior Carla Hardy finished fifth in the weight throw (14.30m/46-11) and freshman Monique Nelson finished 16th (12.72m/41-8.75). Hardy and Nelson also finished in the top 10 in the shot put with puts of 14.30 m/46-11 and 12.27m/40-3.25, respectively. Sophomore Barbara Wine finished third in the shot with a put of 13.50m/44-3.50.

The sprint corps was again led by senior Natalie Martindale. Martindale posted the fastest 60-meter time in the preliminary rounds with a time of 7.69. She improved her time to 7.68, a season-best, in the finals, but finished second to Arkansas State's Carla Christianson (7.67). Martindale also finished second in the 200 with a time of 25.33.
