MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis freshman Inger Anne Froysedal and senior Steffen Nerdal have been named Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the period ending Feb. 22.
Froysedal's collected a pair of first-place honors en route to setting a personal-best and school record mark in the high jump with a mark of 1.77m (5-09.5). The freshman also took top honors in the triple jump recording a mark of 12.09 (39-08). This is Froyesdal's first career weekly honor.
Nerdal recorded an NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw with a winning toss of 21.14m (69-04.25) at the Redhawk Invitational. The junior currently ranks sixth on the NCAA charts and seventh on the USTFCCA. This is Nerdal's second career weekly honor and first in 2009.
Conference USA and the University of Houston are set to host the 2009 C-USA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, Feb. 28 in Houston. Memphis will be competing in the two-day event taking place inside the Yeoman Fieldhouse for the eighth-straight year and the 10th time in the last 12 years. Houston is the only school to host the Championship at an on-campus site.
