Memphis, Tenn.-- - Coming off their best-ever indoor Conference USA Championship, the University of Memphis men's track and field team will open its outdoor season at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Thursday-Sunday.

At last year's Alabama Relays, the men's team finished third in the 4x100 (40.65) and fourth in the 4x200 (1:24.04). With a deep and talented pool of sprinters returning this year, the Tigers could again post some top five finishes this weekend.

The Lady Tiger track team will also be at the Alabama Relays. With the emergence of some of the freshman sprinters on the 2001 roster, the Lady Tigers could possibly improve on last year's 16th place finish in 4x100 and a 20th in the 4x200.

Memphis will host its own invitational the following weekend. Rhodes College and Memphis will co-host the Big Cat Classic, Mar. 31st, on South Campus on the corner of Park and Getwell. The Big Cat will be the men's only home meet of the season, while the Lady Tigers will have three home meets this season.
