Tiger Track and Field Opens Up the Outdoor Season
March 21, 2008
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After an impressive indoor season the University of Memphis men's and women's track and field teams will open up their 2008 outdoor season at the Rhodes Open on Saturday, March 22.
The meet is set to begin at approximately 9 a.m. with both the field and running events. All events are on a rolling time schedule.
Last year at the Rhodes Open, the Tigers brought home three first place finishes. Andre Hicks placed first in the high jump with a height of 6-00 (1.83 meters). Steffen Nerdal won both the discus and the hammer at the Rhodes Open last year, in his outdoor season debut with the Tigers.
Tina Sherratt led the women's team at the Rhodes Open last year; as she is the only returning Lady Tiger to record a first place finish at last years meet. She won the 1500 meters with a time of 4:38.18. Memphis will have new faces competing in the meet this year as four redshirts from last season are returning (Sivan Aballi, Susan King, LaShundra Kershaw and Ashley Stewart) plus a steadily improving freshman class.
Saturdays meet will be the first of seven before the Conference USA Outdoor Championships come around. This will be the only meet where the Tigers will be competing in the Memphis area all season.
