MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After opening up the outdoor season last weekend at the Rhodes Open in Memphis, Tenn., the University of Memphis track and field squad heads to Baton Rouge, La. to compete in the LSU Relays taking place on Friday, March 27 and Saturday March 28. The LSU Relays will take place at Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the campus of Louisiana State University.

The opening events will take place in the field at 10:00 a.m. on Friday followed by the track events beginning at 3:00 p.m. The last section of field events will kick off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and the last of the track events will start at 11:00 a.m.

"I can tell you that it will be our first major test of the outdoor season," said head coach Kevin Robinson. We are going to get to put our elite kids up against the likes of Baylor, LSU, TCU, and some of those elite schools. We have the opportunity to see how we match up early on with some elite competition. "

No Tigers posted an NCAA regional qualifying time, but several Tigers who have regional experience are still competing this spring. Those athletes include Seth Major in the shot put and discus, Christian McDonald school record holder in the javelin, Knut Syversen in the shot put and Aaron Whetstone in the triple jump for the men. Regional qualifiers for the Lady Tigers include, Sivan Aballi who competed in the shot put and discus return for the Lady Tigers along with Charlotte Abrahamsen who competed in the shot put. With heavy elite competition, the Tigers look to improve their marks at the LSU Relays in hopes of recording NCAA regional qualifying marks.

"Our hopes are that we can qualify some kids for the NCAA MidEast Regional meet and continue building where we left off last week," said Robinson. "This meet will help us, as a staff, to be able to evaluate our team and know what we need to work on, as well as the direction that we need to go in order to improve. We will continue our goal from here to compete for a conference championship."

Opening the month of April, the Tigers travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. To compete in the Gatorade Classic at Southeast Missouri State University on Friday, April, 3 and Saturday, April 4.
