April 9, 2010
Memphis, Tenn. - The University of Memphis track and field squads will go separate ways this weekend as members of the men’s and women’s team will compete at the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, Miss. while eight Tigers will compete at the John McDonnnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Junior’s Guy Hudson, Richard Lowe and Nick Harold joined by sophomore Alex Sweet and freshman Brieuc Vandeleene will travel to the John McDonnell Invitational. The Lady Tigers traveling to Fayetteville are juniors LaShundra Kershaw and Holland Thomas and sophomore Kayleigh Brown. The remaining student-athletes representing the University of Memphis will compete in Oxford, Miss. on Saturday. The Tigers had a good all-around weekend at the Joey Haines Invitational with the men’s team taking home the team scoring title and the Lady Tigers finishing third in the team standings. Coach Robinson hopes the Tigers use results from the Joey Haines as a stepping stone toward the Conference USA Outdoor Championships in May. The Tiger track program has a combined 43 athletes ranked in the top-10 of their event among C-USA competitors. The men’s squad has 20 athletes ranked in the top-five, the most among C-USA foes.
After competition this weekend at the Ole Miss Invitational or Arkansas Invitational, the Tigers will host the second annual Memphis Tiger Invitational on Fri., Apr. 16, and Sat., Apr. 17.
