MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The first day of competition at the Memphis Tiger Invitational is complete. The hammer throw was the only event in competition on Friday, April 17.

Memphis' own sophomore Kristin Sundsteigen took home the hammer throw title with a personal record mark of 52.14m (171-01) while SIU-Edwardsville competitor Ben Bishop took home the men's hammer throw championship with a throw of 55.88m (183-04).

Home track advantage was good to the Lady Tigers who entered four throwers in the hammer throw with each finishing in the top four spots in the final standings and each recording personal records. Behind Sundsteigen, was junior Angela Wigley who recorded a personal record 50.40m (165-04) toss earning her second-place. Junior Karmyn Clark took home third with a personal record 47.98m (157-05). Freshman Alanna Owens finished in fourth-place with a personal record mark of 40.52m (132-11).

On the men's side, competing unattached, junior Tiger Knut Syversen earned second-place in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.02m (180-06). Junior Harding Zills took home fourth-place with a throw of 47.50m (155-10).

Competition will continue on Saturday, April 18 at 9:00 a.m. including women's javelin, men's long jump and women's shot put. Women's pole vault is to begin at 10:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., men's javelin, women's long jump, and men's shot put will take place. At 11:30 a.m. a "Kids 100m dash" will kick off the events on the track. All women's track events will be followed by the men's race.

Collegiate races start with the 4x100m relays at 12:00 p.m. The 1500m run follows at 12:20 p.m. The women's 100m hurdles followed by the men's 110m hurdles will start at 12:45 p.m. and 1:05 p.m. respectively. At 1:00 p.m. the women's discus, women's high jump, and men's triple jump will take place. The 400m dash will be run at 1:20 p.m. followed by the 100m dash and men's pole vault at 2:00 p.m. On the track beginning at 2:40, the 800m run will begin followed by the 400m hurdles at 3:10 p.m. Field events wrap up with men's discus, men's high jump and women's triple jump at 3:30 p.m. On the track, the 200m dash will start at 3:45 p.m. followed by the 3,000m run at 4:30 p.m. The last competitive race will be the 4x400m relay at 5:10 p.m.

 

 

To wrap up the first annual Memphis Tiger Invitational, there will be a throwers 4x100m relay at 5:35 which competitors can only compete in if they have competed in a prior throwing field event during the meet.
