@MemTigersTF_XC Eyes War Eagle Invitational
April 17, 2014
AUBURN, Ala.-University of Memphis track and field squads return to action, on Friday, at the War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn University. After a week off from competition, the Tigers are looking improved performances with only two meets left before the inaugural American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship.
"I think, we are healthy and healthier than we have been," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. "I feel like our bodies are a little more fit, a little more prepared and little more recovered. Going into this weekend we want to feel good, it will be a high level of competition. We want to be able to compete at our highest level this weekend."
Competition begins at Auburn on Friday at 2:00 p.m. (CT) with the men's and women's hammer throw, javelin and triple jump followed by the men's and women's 1,500m and 5,000m invitational races. The action resumes on Saturday beginning 11:00 a.m. (CT) with remaining field events followed by a full slate of track events at 12:00 p.m. (CT).
"I think we are at the point in our season where we are ready to compete at a really high level," Robinson said. This is our first, what I consider, competitive meet. We're going to be running our primary events with our best athletes across the board. This is going to be the first true test of the season."
Results from the War Eagle Invitational will be posted on GoTigegrsGo.com as they are made available.
