TAMPA, Fla.-University of Memphis track and field squads will compete in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, beginning on Friday. USF will play host to the first-ever event.
"I'm really looking forward to the championship this weekend," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. "It's really hard to know what to expect with this being the conference's inaugural outdoor championship. We're really excited and anxious to see what the other coaches in the conference do in terms of entries. "
Just as in the indoor championship, the Tigers will compete head to head with many of their conference foes for the first time in the outdoor setting and events. Though there are unknowns in some areas when it comes to their competition, the team is confident they have what it takes to meet the opposition.
"I feel like we are very well represented and deep in several areas," Robinson said. "We have numerous weapons and if we go in and perform to the best of our abilities we should do very well. We're firing on all cylinders; it's just a matter of putting all together over the course of one meet. "
The competition is set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the USF Track and Field Stadium. Day one begins at 11:00 a.m. (CT) and will include the women's and men's hammer throw, the start of decathlon and heptathlon events, the women's and men's 3,000m steeplechase and the women's and men's 10,000m.
Results from each day of the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
