ATLANTA, Ga.-University of Memphis track and field squads are set to compete in their final scheduled meet of the 2014 outdoor season, on Friday, at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The meet serves as a final opportunity for several Tigers seeking a berth in the 2014 NCAA East Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary set for May 29-31.

“We’re going to take athletes that we feel will have an opportunity to advance,” head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. “We’re putting them in a high level competition where everybody there is trying to qualify. It’s one more opportunity for us to go about and battle.”

To qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary, an athlete must rank in the top-48 of their respective event based on their season best performance. On the latest TFRRS.org NCAA Division I East qualifying list, 13 Tigers sit in a qualifying position.

On the men’s side, Georgio Lynwood (High Jump, tied at No. 26), Pauls Pujats (Pole Vualt, No. 4), Austin Crenshaw (Pole Vault, No. 9), Jaleen White (Triple Jump, tied at No. 48), Yannik Schaly (Shot Put, No. 23), Luke Vaughn (Discus, No. 48) and Thomas Poole (Javelin, No. 43) are currently in position to qualify. Needing a top-24 national ranking to qualify for the decathlon at the NCAA National Championship, Luis Hanssler currently sits at No. 12 bringing the total to eight men that could see a berth in the NCAA postseason.

For the women, Maya Williamson (400m Hurdles, No. 14), Carolina Carmichael (Pole Vault, tied at No. 12), Sabrina Hochreuther (Pole Vault, tied at No. 12), Clara Amat-Fernandez (Pole Vault, tied at No. 28), Vivian Brandhoff (Shot Put, No. 26) and Britta Jaarats (Shot Put, No. 48) currently sit in a qualifying position. The men’s and women’s squads also have a few more athletes that sit just outside of the top-48, including Brandon Williams (400m Hurdles, No. 49) for the men and Chardae Greelee (Triple Jump, No. 51) for the women.

The Tigers will get their final chance to improve on their positions beginning Friday with day one action set to begin at 11:00 a.m. (CT). Saturday’s action is set for a 10:00 a.m. start time. Results from both days will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
