@MemTigersTF_XC Athletes Prepare for NCAA East Preliminary

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-The University of Memphis track and field program will send 10 athletes to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary beginning on Thursday. It marks the fourth-straight outdoor campaign that the Tigers have sent at least 10 qualifiers to the annual event.
" I think it is a positive thing for the program to have at least 10, 12 or more participants year in and year out year," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. "We expected to have a few more; we had a few that were right on the bubble that did not quite make it. We've had a couple of things here and there that have held us back. We are still sending athletes forward, so I'm pleased with that and the focus is on them and getting them ready to compete at the next level."
The meet will take place Thursday through Saturday at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium. On Thursday, three men will seek to advance to the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championship in Eugene, Ore. First-time qualifier Thomas Poole will be the first Tiger to compete, throwing in the javelin at 11:00 a.m. (CT).
In the men's shot put, sophomore Yannik Schaly and freshman Luke Vaughn will look to punch their ticket to the Eugene at 3 p.m. (CT). This will be Schaly's second-straight year to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary. Vaughn, a first-time qualifier, will also compete in the discus.
On the women's side, Maya Williamson will run in the 400m hurdle preliminary on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. (CT). If Williamson can advance she will run in the quarterfinal round set for Friday at 6:45 p.m. (CT). This is Williamson's third-straight year to qualify in the 400m hurdles. In 2013, she advanced to the NCAA Outdoor National Championship in the event finishing 17th overall.
Friday's action will include two Tigers in the women's pole vault as Sabrina Hochreuther and Carolina Carmichael will make their attempt at a berth in the NCAA National Championship. This is Hochreuther's second NCAA East Preliminary, while Carmichael will be making her first appearance. Both pole vaulters have he each held the program's outdoor pole vault record this season with Carmichael currently holding the top-mark at 4.18m (13'8.5").
The meet will conclude on Saturday with five Tigers in action. Vaughn will compete in the men's discus at 11:00 a.m. (CT). In the men's pole vault Austin Crenshaw and Pauls Pujats will seek to advance with the event scheduled for 11:00 a.m. (CT). This is Crenshaw's fourth-straight trip to the preliminary round. For Pujats, this will be his second trip in outdoor competition, qualifying to for the event with a program-record vault of 5.54m (18'2") set at the 2014 Memphis Invitational.
In the women's shot put set for 3:00 p.m. (CT) , Vivian Brandhoff will compete for the second-time at the NCAA East Preliminary. Brandhoff qualified with her season-best throw of 15.49m (50'10") coming in a fourth place finish at the inaugural American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
The final Tiger to compete will be Georgio Lynwood in the men's high jump at 4:00 p.m. (CT). This is Lynwood's third-straight trip to the NCAA East Preliminary. In 2012, Lynwood advanced to the NCAA Championship where he placed 13th in the high jump earning All-America second team honors becoming the program's first All-American in the event. Lynwood also holds the program's high jump record at 2.19m (7'2.25").
