C-USA All-Academic Track and Field Teams

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-Kyle Bynum, Kala Funderburk and Xenia Rahn were named to the Conference USA All-Academic Teams the league announced on Wednesday. The trio joined the list of 22 student-athletes in receiving the honor voted on by the conference's sports information directors.

"Kyle, Xenia and Kala exemplify what this program is truly about," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. "This award is about both academic and athletic success, and that is why we are here. I am very proud of these three athletes and what they do for this program. It is my job to create and foster a culture of success in every facet of the lives of these young men and women. These three student-athletes are prime examples of the culture of champions that we are striving for."

Bynum, named to the Men's C-USA All-Academic Track and Field Team, carried a 3.66 grade point average in biomedical engineering. During the 2013 outdoor track and field season, the sophomore qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary in the javelin for the second-straight year. The Pearl, Miss., native recorded six top-five finishes in the javelin with his season-best throw of 64.17m (210'6") coming in a third place finish at the Louisiana Classics. This season, Bynum was named to the C-USA Commissioners Honor Roll.

Funderbuk, named to the Women's C-USA All-Academic Track and Field Team, carries a 3.95 GPA in journalism. Also a 2013 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree, the St. Petersburg, Fla., native qualified for her second-straight NCAA East Preliminary in the 400m and 4 x 400m relay, advancing to the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in both. At the 2013 C-USA Outdoor Championships, Funderburk took silver in the 400m and gold in the 4 x 400m relay. Funderburk grabbed gold at the 2013 C-USA Indoor Championship in the 400m, silver in the 200m and silver in the 4 x 400m relay.

Rahn, named to the Women's C-USA All-Academic Track and Field Team, carries a 3.76 GPA in international business. In 2013, the Hamburg, Germany native received the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and was named to the 2013 C-USA Commissioner's honor roll. Rahn's silver medal performance of 5, 463 points in the women's heptathlon qualified the sophomore for the 2013 C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. At the 2013 C-USA Indoor Championship, Rahn won the pentathlon and took All-C-USA first team honors with a score of 4,004 points. Rahn's pentathlon mark of 4,191 points set at the Rod McCravy Invitational qualified her for the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships.
