Seven Tigers Set for NCAA Outdoor Championships
June 4, 2013
EUGENE, Ore.-Seven University of Memphis track and field athletes are set for competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 5-8 at the University of Oregon. This marks the highest number of athletes the Tigers have sent to the championship meet since the NCAA moved to the regional qualifying format in 2001.
"The mental preparedness is more important than the physical," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. "Physically we are ready to go we're healthy, mentally we've got to be prepared for the fact that this meet is the most competitive atmosphere that they have experienced in their lives. If they go in with the right mind set and don't get star struck by who is around them and who they are competing with, stay focused on their races and compete the way that we know that they can, they will advance and bring home some All-American certificates."
For the women, Kala Funderburk (400m, 4 x 400m relay), Maya Williamson (400m hurdles, 4 x 400m relay), Monica Mason (4 x 400m relay), Keyona Neal (4 x 400m relay) and Xenia Rahn (heptathlon) will represent the Tigers.
