Tigers Make Strong Showing in Competition Abroad

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- University of Memphis track and field athletes Clara Amat Fernandez (Spain), Vivian Brandhoff (Netherlands) and Yannik Schaly (Germany) recently had strong showings in international and national competition.
Amat Fernandez placed eighth in the women's pole vault at the 22nd European Athletics Junior Championships (July 18-23) clearing 3.95m (12'11.5"). In qualifying for the finals, Amat-Fernandez cleared a season- best 4.00m (13'1.5") eclipsing her collegiate-best and school-record of 3.95m (12-11.5").
Brandhoff placed third at the Netherlands Senior National Championship (July 20-21) in the women's shot put throwing 14.64m (48'0.5"). In 2013, the freshman qualified for her first trip to the NCAA East Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary with a collegiate season-best of 14.91m (48'11").
Schaly, also a NCAA East Preliminary qualifier in 2013, took fourth at the 2013 German U-23 Championships (June 15-16) in the men's shot put throwing 17.55m (57'7"). Schaly followed that performance placing 11th at the German Senior National Championship with a throw 17.58 (57'8.25").
