Memphis Announces the Merging of Track Programs
Aug. 17, 2006 MEMPHIS - The University of Memphis announced today that it will combine its men's and women's track teams into one program under the direction of Kevin Robinson who will serve as the head coach of both squads. The move is endorsed by longtime women's coach Brenda Cash, who will assume the position of Director of Track Operations. In that capacity, Cash will oversee the day-to-day operations of the track program, while also retaining some coaching duties. Robinson was named head coach of the men's team in June after the retirement of former head coach Glenn Hays. However, Robinson is no stranger to the women's program, having coached the women's field athletes the past four years. During his span as an assistant coach, Robinson has guided five Lady Tigers to NCAA Regional appearances and helped three to qualify for the NCAA Championships. In addition, Memphis shot-putter Gail Lee became the first female All-American in the history of the track program.
