Track Announces Signees
Aug. 21, 2006
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis track and field coach Kevin Robinson has announced his signees for the 2007 season. Despite getting a late start on the recruiting trail, Robinson managed to bring in a solid nucleus of newcomers who should score for Tigers immediately.
Glenwood Edwards, a thrower from Barton County Community College, originally hails from Maryland. He has thrown over 17 meters in the shot put and 49 meters in the discus. Edwards was a two-time junior college All-American in the shot put and should make an immediate impact in Conference USA.
Andre Hicks is a high jumper from Barton County. Originally from Harrisburg, Penn., Hicks has jumped a personal best 6-10. Robinson expects Hicks to help in multi-event competitions as well as the triple jump.
LaShundra Kershaw is a sprinter from Palmer High School in Marks, Miss. In 2006 Kershaw pulled off an impressive double, taking state titles in the 100 meters (11.76) and 200 meters (25.18). Kershaw is also a very good long jumper and will compete in sprints, jumps and relays for the Lady Tigers.
Angela Wigley, a thrower from Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wis., was two-time state champion in the shot put and owns a personal best of 43-10 in the event. Wigley will join an already strong cast of Lady Tiger throwers.
Ashton Baldwin is a pole vault transfer from Texas State where she set a personal record vault of 12-3. She should compete immediately for C-USA title and has the potential to be a regional qualifier in 2007. Baldwin will be a sophomore and should be a great addition, joining veteran Whitney Bolton in Memphis pole vaulting group.
