University of Memphis Track & Field head coach Kevin Robinson released the 2009 cross country schedule on Friday.

The 2009 slate features four meets prior to the Conference USA championship. The men's and women's cross country teams will begin their season on September 5 at the Memphis Twilight Classic. The Tigers will then hit the road to Nashville for the Commodore Classic on September 19. On September 26, the distance athletes will travel to Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss Invitational. The regular season schedule concludes on October 10 at the Bison Stampede in Searcy, Ark.

The C-USA Cross Country championship will be held in Houston, Texas, on October 31. The NCAA Regional will be held on November 14 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Edwin Kipkorrir leads the Men's Cross Country team into the 2009 season. Kipkorrir recorded a season best 8k time of 25:54.55 at the UALR Invitational in 2008. Jacob Chapman, Jorgen Ekdahl, Joe Coneo, Curtis Gibbs, Guy Hudson and Juan Arboleda return for the 2009 season looking to improve on past performances. Newcomer Abdi Guleed looks to make an impact as a distance runner in his first season at Memphis.

Sophomore Joslynne Serna, sophomore Jasmine Darden and Kayleigh Brown return for the Women's Cross Country team for 2009 after productive seasons in 2008. Serna posted a personal best 21:49.70 at the Redhawk Classic. Darden set a personal best time of 20:35.00 at the 2008 Cross Country Championships.

The women's cross country team will have three new faces for the 2009 season. Louisa Lingley, Karoline Shott, and Brittany Duboise will all be distance runners for new cross country coach Doug Clark.
