Women's Cross Country Prepares for Memphis Twilight Classic
Sept. 9, 2005 Memphis, Tenn. - Coming off a solid early-season performance at the Belmont Opener last weekend, the Memphis women's cross country squad is set for its second meet of the season, the Memphis Twilight Classic, which will be hosted by Christian Brothers University Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Mike Rose soccer complex in Germantown, Tenn. The Lady Tigers opened the season last weekend with a superb effort that gave them a sixth-place team finish in a strong field at Belmont. Junior Daniele Riendeau led the way with a seventh-place overall finish in a time of 14:47 for the 4K race. Freshman Emily Malinowski also claimed a top-15 tally, as she placed 14th in a time of 14:57. Rounding out the team's scoring last weekend were Mary Claire Dake, Meghan Shinkwin and Nora Nemere, who will battle with Carolyn Corbett, Sarah Janecek and Becca McMahon to remain in the top five. The Memphis Twilight Classic should provide another good test for the U of M squad as the three-mile race will feature several local schools including CBU and Ole Miss as well as a number of talented squads from around the region. The women's collegiate portion race is set to begin at 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening. Results will be available at gotigersgo.com following the completion of the meet.
