Tigers Seek Repeat at Rhodes College Invitational
Sept. 28, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn.- University of Memphis cross country squads return to action, on Saturday at the Rhodes College Invitational. The Tigers look to run well on a very familiar course at Shelby Farms in Memphis, Tenn.
"In our first two meets at the Memphis Brooks Twilight and Vanderbilt, we were battling to crack the top five or ten both as individuals and as teams," cross country coach Doug Clark said. "At Rhodes this week it is a smaller meet where we will be competing with a chance to win if we execute well."
The men's squad comes into the weekend ranked no. 11 in the latest USTFCCCA South Region Rankings. In the first two races the Memphis men posted two top-10 team finishes, with Daniel Kuhman posting top-10 individual finishes in both outings.
The women's squad posted a top-10 finish at the Memphis Brooks Twilights, with Louisa Lingley taking a top-10 finish of ninth at the event. Both squads will look to score big at the Rhodes College Invite where Tigers have seen recent success.
"Both teams won last year with James Maglasang and Daniel Kuhman going one-two for the men, and Louisa Lingley placing third for the women. We will be striving to duplicate or maybe even improve a little on last year's result," Clark said.
The Tigers take the course Shelby Farms at 10:00 a.m. (CT) in the women's 5k, with the men's 8k to follow at 10:40 a.m. (CT). Results from the event will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
