MEMPHIS, TENN. - The Memphis men's and women's cross country teams head out to compete in their last meet before the C-USA Championships. Friday, Oct. 17 at 5:00 p.m., the Tigers will be competing in the Redhawk Classic in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The meet will be held at the Jaycee Golf Course in Cape Girardeau.

"This race is the race leading in to the Conference Championships for us," said Memphis distance coach Toby Reep about the Redhawk Classic on Friday. "We expect good things tomorrow. We expect to come out and have a good meet. Hopefully that will set us up to have a good meet at conference."

The Memphis men's and women's teams are coming off a fifth and sixth place performance respectively at the Watson Ford Invitational in Clinton, Miss., hosted by Mississippi College. Senior Emily Malinowski was the top women's finisher for the Lady Tigers with an eighth place finish with a time of 24:03.99 on the 8k course. Sophomore newcomer Edwin Kipkorir crossed the finish line first for the men's team in eighth place as well clocking in at 26:40.28. The Tigers look to put on a strong performance in the last race before the C-USA Championships

"By looking at the weather, hopefully it's a little cooler tomorrow," said Reep on the condition of his team. "That's going to help things out for us. We expect to be close to, if not at our top condition. We should be fairly well rested and have fresh legs at this point."

The next meet for the Memphis cross country teams is the Conference Championships. The C-USA Championships are hosted by the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tenn. at Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Saturday, Nov. 1.
