MADISON, Conn. -University of Memphis cross country squads will run in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship hosted by UCONN at Hammonsset Beach State Park, on Saturday. The men’s team will take to the 8K course at 10:00 a.m. (CT) with the women to follow on the 6K course at 10:50 a.m. (CT).

This season the men’s team, led by senior James Maglasang and junior Dan Kuhman, has posted three top-10 team finishes. The men took home a team win at the Rhodes College Invitational (9/28), their third-straight victory at the annual event. Kuhman has notched three top-five finishes through four races, with Maglasang posting one top-10 and one top-five.

On the women’s side, Memphis continues to improve as the season progresses led by seniors Jenny Johnston, Alisha Fitch, Meagan Nichols and Nandia Taylor. The ladies have scored two top-10 team finishes through four races, with their season-best being third at the Rhodes College Invitational.

The women have also gotten boost from freshman Martina Rodriguez. Rodriguez, an Olot, Spain native, has been the top-individual finisher for the ladies in each race with her best finish of sixth coming at the Rhodes College Invitational.

For the first time the conference will be producing a live video stream from the championship. You can access the live stream via any computer, tablet or mobile device at Results for the event will be posted on as they are made available.

Meet the American
The men’s and women’s squads will face just about all of The American teams for the first time this season at the championship. So far this season, the Tigers have only run head-to-head against a conference foe one time. At the Indiana Sate Pre-Nationals the women ran against Cincinnati in the Women’s White 6K.

Championship Progress
Both the men’s and women’s squads look to have improved performances in conference competition. The men’s team in particular looks to build on last season’s performance in Conference USA, where they scored a fourth place team finish. It was the highest finish by the men’s squad at a conference championship since 1985 when they finished third at the Metro Conference Championship.
