Memphis, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's track and cross country team has added a second member to its incoming class of 2005 with the signing of distance runner Carolyn Corbett from Concord High School in Concord, N.H.

Corbett, who is expected to excel in longer distance races, has racked up a number of top finishes in her high school career, including a 2004 state championship in the indoor 3,000 meters (m). She also claimed a runner-up finish in Class L cross country in 2003 and fourth place finishes at the 3200m and 1600m distances at the 2004 outdoor state championships. Along with these accomplishments, Corbett was named to the All-State cross country team in 2001 and 2003, and led the Concord High cross country team to state championships in 2002 and 2003, while earning four letters each in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track

"Carolyn should really help us in cross country and in longer races like the 5,000m and 10,000m," said coach Jonas Holdeman. "She is another young lady who will be a great member of our program both on and off the track."

Corbett, who is an honor roll student, is also a member of the Epicurean Club, German Club and Varsity Club, and will add to an already strong academic squad. Carolyn is the daughter of Tom and Laurie Corbett.
