Memphis served up a season-high 19 aces and the Tigers got a combined 42 kills from Altrese Hawkins, Vesna Jelic and Marija Jovanovic in a 3-1 rout of Illinois-Chicago in the UIC 2010 Invite. The win was the third-straight for the U of M, who improves to 3-1 on the year.

After getting out to a slow start in a first-set loss, Memphis regrouped and dominated play in sets two, three and four. The Tigers defense gave up a .455 attacking percentage in a game-one loss, but held the UIC offense to just .065 for the remainder of the match. The Flames were cooled to a paltry -.176 in the final set. Meanwhile, Memphis, who hit just .111 in the opening set, connected for a .333 clip on 38 kills in the final three periods.
The Tiger's 19 aces are the most since serving up a record 23 aces versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2005. Six players recorded at least one ace, with Maja Kostic leading the way with a match and career-high six. Hajnalka Molnar added four aces to a match-high 39 assists.
The Tigers will round out the weekend's action in the UIC 2010 Invite with a pair of contests tomorrow at the UIC Pavilion. Memphis will take on Northern Illinois at Noon, followed by a 5 p.m. meeting with Kennesaw State.
