Tigers Drop Four Set Match to Arkansas State, 3-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis volleyball team returned to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse Tuesday evening to take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves. The Tigers battled, back after dropping the first set to take the second but eventually fell in four, 3-1.
The Tigers dropped a close first set 25-21, but bounced back in the second wining 25-21. Memphis did not trail in the second set, leading by as many as seven during the set. The teams battled to a 25-19 score in favor of the Red Wolves in the third set and then Arkansas State took a close fourth set 25-22 for the match.
Viktorija Teivane continued her impressive senior season, finishing the game tied for the team-high in kills and digs with 15 and 23 respectively. It was her fourth straight game finishing with a double-double and sixth overall. Catlin Lilly put down 15 kills and dug 14 balls for her fifth double-double of the season.
Veronica Zimmerman, who entered the week first in the conference in assists per set finished with 43 assists. Aleksandra Petronijevic, who ranks fifth in the nation with in digs per set, dug out 23 balls. McKenzie Hayes made her fourth-straight start and killed nine balls, good for a team high .242 hitting percentage.
The Tigers return to the court Friday, September 20 at 1 p.m. when they face off against La Salle during the Tiger Invitational. They'll also battle University of Arkansas - Little Rock Friday evening at 7 p.m. before finishing the weekend against Austin Peay State University Saturday afternoon at noon.
