NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Memphis volleyball team looked like they were on their way to a sweep at Tulane University on Friday night after the Tigers took the first two sets. However, the Green Wave took the third set and held a lead towards the end of the fourth set. Memphis came back and scored six of the final seven points to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.

Tulane jumped ahead to a quick 6-2 lead in the first set before the Tigers began to work their way back. After the Tigers (6-11, 1-2 CUSA) evened the score at 8-8, Maja Kostic served up an ace to give Memphis a 9-8 lead and force a Green Wave timeout. Altrese Hawkins and Lauren Hawkins teamed up for a block, giving the Tigers a 10-8 advantage. However, the Green Wave came back to even the score at 10 apiece

The teams then went back-and-forth until the Tigers went on a 5-1 run, started by a Kostic kill. The Hawkins duo teamed up for another block to cap the spurt. Memphis then held a 24-21 lead before the Green Wave scored consecutive points. However, Marija Jovanovic ended the Tigers' 25-23 set win with one over her six kills in the set.

The second set was a see-saw affair as neither team led by more than two points the entire way. Following a block by Jaden Louie and Lauren Hawkins that put the Tigers up 17-15, Tulane rolled off three straight points to regain the lead. However, Memphis came right back and evened the score before taking the lead. Katie Meyer sparked a 3-0 run with a kill and Altrese Hawkins followed with an ace. The Green Wave held off one Tiger set point to even the score at 24, but Kostic answered with a kill. Altrese Hawkins then ended the set with a kill, giving Memphis a 2-0 lead with the 26-24 second set win.

The Green Wave made some adjustments during the 10 minute break before the third set as they came out swinging. Tulane grabbed a 9-4 lead and extended it to 16-9, forcing the Tigers to use both of their timeouts. Memphis scored four points out of the timeout, bookended by Jovanovic kills. Lauren Hawkins pulled the Tigers within 18-15, but Tulane quickly extended the lead. The Green Wave went on to take the set 25-19.

The fourth set was a set of runs, as Memphis jumped out to a 5-1 run lead behind the serve of Lauren Hawkins. The Tigers extended their lead to 10-5, and held a 12-7 advantage before the Green Wave came back. Tulane went on a 9-2 run to take a 16-14 lead. The Green Wave held that lead until Louie ignited the Tiger offense with a kill. Altrese Hawkins followed with a kill to tie the set at 21. Riding the serve of Lauren Hawkins, Altrese Hawkins pounded home two more kills to give Memphis a 24-21 lead. Altrese Hawkins then gave the Tigers the 25-22 victory with her seventh kill of the set.

Altrese Hawkins led the Tigers with 20 kills and had an attack percentage of .302. She also added 10 digs for the double-double. Jovanovic recorded 13 kills while Louie dished out a season-high 50 assists. Aleksandra Petronijevic led the team with 13 digs and Kostic chipped in with 11 digs.

Memphis will be in action again on Sunday when they take on UTEP in El Paso, Texas. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. central time.
