Volleyball Drops Fifth Straight
Oct. 18, 2002 TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Memphis volleyball team (13-9, 0-4 C-USA) dropped its fifth straight match to league co-leader South Florida, 3-0, Friday. The five-match skid is the longest of the season for the Tigers, who lost 30-19, 30-28, and 30-28. The blocking game was again a deciding factor in the Tiger opponents' favor. USF out-blocked the U of M 10.5 - 5 for the three-game match, led by six total blocks from Bonnye Glover. Junior Brittany Barnett (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands) led Memphis with 14 kills, while hitting .310, while freshman Nancy Nellans (South Bend, Ind./St. Joseph) added 13 kills in the loss. The loss keeps Memphis winless in C-USA play after posting a 13-5 non-conference record, while USF improves to 5-0 in the league. The Tigers' road trip does not get any easier, having to leave their Tampa hotel at 4 a.m., Saturday to board a flight to Atlanta before flying to Birmingham. The Tigers will then face host UAB at 7 p.m. before returning home.
Memphis will host a non-conference triangular with Arkansas State and Belmont, Tuesday. The Tigers will face Arkansas State at noon and Belmont at 7 p.m.
