Volleyball Drops Sixth Straight

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Memphis volleyball team hit just .121 and was blocked 12 times in a 3-1 loss at UAB, Saturday. Game scores were 36-34, 24-30, 30-24 and 30-28. The loss drops Memphis to 13-10, 0-5 in the conference.
Memphis was led by sophomore Tiara Gilkey, who had 13 kills. Freshman Nancy Nellans added 12 kills, while setter Heather Watts had 10 kills in the loss. Junior Brittany Barnett, battling the flu while on the road, had just nine kills, but had a team high 20 digs.
UAB had a pair of Blazers tally 20 kills. Martina Shields and Kristi Lee each downed 20 balls, while Allison Magner downed 11 in the Blazers win.
Memphis returns home to host Arkansas State at noon, Tuesday, and
Belmont at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
