Oct. 22, 1999

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis women's volleyball team (8-17, 1-9) came out fast in hopes of snapping an eight-game Conference USA losing streak. The Tigers recorded five services aces en route a 15-7 opening game win, and held Pre-Season All-Conference middle hitter Laura Risley without a kill in the first game.

But Risley showed up big in the second game, downing eight of her 19 kills in game two, while guiding the Billikens to a 15-4 victory.

The offensive display continued in game three, as the Billikens hit a game-high .448 in a 15-5 win. Saint Louis wrapped up game four with the score of 15-7.

Three Billikens finished in double-digit kills: Risley with 19, Cristal Leonard with 15 and Colleen Hunter with 12.

Memphis was led by senior Rosie Glenn, who finished with 13 kills, and freshman Amanda Boatright, who downed 10 kills. Glenn is now 36 kills shy of the 1,000 career kill mark.

Sophomores Sarah Wengler and Ginger Garrett each had three service aces in the loss.

The Tigers travel to UNC-Charlotte to wrap up their regular season schedule against the American Division, Sunday, at 2 p.m.
