MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Junior Ashley Liford downed 15 kills to become the 18th player in Memphis volleyball history to record 1,000 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers hit just .141 in a 3-1 loss to East Carolina Sunday afternoon. Memphis falls to 23-7 on the year and 9-5 in C-USA play.

Sarah Bury led Memphis with 18 kills and Shelby Burton added 10. The ECU defense held Burton, who entered the weekend tops in the confernce in hitting, to just .114. Laura Côté dished out 46 assists.

Memphis had three players finish with 10 or more digs, led by 18 from Christen Clayton. Bury completed a double-double performance with 16 digs. Côté added 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the year. Burton led the Tigers with five blocks.

ECU was led by Kelly Wernert's match-high 24 kills. Wernert hit .392 in the match, and no other Pirate hitter reached double figures in kills. ECU's defense was stellar, making 18 blocks and 77 digs. Libero Trish Monroe led a crew of five Pirates, who had more than 10 digs. Hannah Fenker and Heidi Krug posted 14 and 13 digs, respectively. Stephanie Turner and Wernert had 12 kills each.Mignon Dubenion led the Pirates with seven blocks. Turner and Wernert had six each, while Jaime Bevan and Krug finished with five.

Memphis finished the year 14-3 at home, and will hit the road for its final C-USA weekend of the season. The Tigers will take on UCF on Fri., Nov. 10, and Southern Miss on Sun., Nov. 12.
