Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to UCF

UCF (14-15; 7-10 C-USA) 25 24 25 25 Memphis (15-14; 6-11 C-USA) 13 26 18 17 Altrese Hawkins led all players with 13 kills and Marija Jovanovic added 10 kills, but 13 Memphis service errors, combined with 16 blocks and nine aces by UCF proved to be too much for the Tigers to overcome in a 3-1 loss to the Knights in C-USA action Friday night at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The loss was the fourth-straight for the Tigers, who fall to 15-14 overall and 6-11 in C-USA play. UCF improves to 14-15, 7-10 in the conference. In addition to a tough day at the service line and a strong blocking effort by UCF, the Tigers offense struggled, hitting just .094 for the match. Memphis was held under .200 hitting in three of the four sets, including hitting a meager -.083 in the finale. Other than Hawkins and Jovanovic, Hajnalka Molnar was the only other successful Memphis hitter, with a .444 average on six kills. The Tigers setter added 34 assists and five digs. Christine Bach picked up a team-best 17 digs, while Vesna Jelic finished the night with 12. Hawkins made four blocks for the Memphis defense. The Tiger defense finished the night 6.5 blocks. Memphis held a 46-45 advantage in kills, and set three more assists than the Knights in the contest. UCF was led by Nichole Riedel and Kristin Fisher, who combined for 21 kills. Riedels landed 11 kills and .556. Setter Rachel Vukson set a match-high 36 assists. Meredith Murphy picked up a match-high 18 digs. Five Knights recorded at least four blocks in the match. Riedel made seven blocks; Tory McCutcheon made six and Vuskon added five rejections. The Tigers will return to action on Sun., Nov. 21 when they host UTEP in a 1 p.m. match at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Sunday will be Senior Day as the program and its fans will honor Memphis' four seniors--Bach, Katlin Inglish, Becky Shaffer and Emily Underwood.
