Tiger Volleyball Celebrates 2008 Season With Annual Banquet

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Photo Gallery Joined by supporters of the program, the University of Memphis volleyball team celebrated its eighth-straight season with a .500 or better record, and honored its lone senior, Laura Côté at its 12th annual volleyball banquet at the Doubletree Hotel. Côté was honored for a record-setting career in which she became Memphis' all-time assists leader. A six-time C-USA Setter of the Week honoree, Côté was also hauled in national recognition, being tabbed an Academic All-District member, an AVCA Mid-West First Teamer and an AVCA honorable mention All-American in 2006. Six different Tigers were honored for their contributions to the team's success. Rising junior Emily Underwood took home the team's Most Improved Player Award, while Becky Shaffer earned the Coach's Award. Laura Côté, Christine Bach and Lauren Thompson received the Captain's Award and the Strength and Conditioning Award went to Thompson. Carolyn Baker was honored for being named to the 2008 C-USA All-Freshman Team. Underwood and Bach garnered recognition for their performances in the classroom as well as on the court.
