M Club Honors Class of 2010 And Adds Largest Class in School History
April 29, 2010 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - The University of Memphis M Club will grow by another 55 members following graduation next Saturday, but the M Club honored the Class of 2010 at a luncheon in the River Room of the brand new University Center Thursday afternoon. In addition to recognizing all the seniors from the 2009-2010 season, the M Club awarded three special honors. Football player Matt Reagan was recognized as the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Reagan was an Associated Press All-America honoree following this season. The four-year letterwinner served as the Tigers' placekicker and adding punting duties for the first time this past season. A semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, which is presented to the nation's top punter, Reagan was a second team All-C-USA honoree and ranked third nationally in punting average (45.5). He was also 31-of-33 on PATs and was second on the team with 64 points. A major in Geography with a concentration in Environmental and Earth Science, Reagan holds a 3.81 GPA and will be attending graduate school this fall at Mississippi State to pursue a degree in Operational Meteorology. Also a candidate for the Lowe's Senior Class Award, Reagan received two academic honors last spring from the English and Geography departments. He was a ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honoree in November. The senior from Knoxville, Tenn. (Bearden HS) was a member of the Earth Science Society, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as a tutor for other Tiger student-athletes in the Center for Academic Athletic Services. He also visited the Veterans' Hospital and the LeBonheur Children's Hospital and completed an internship with the National Weather Service in Memphis. Volleyball player Lauren Thompson received the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The Germantown, Tenn. (Germantown HS) native will graduate next Saturday with a degree in sport and leisure management with a minor in marketing management. With a 3.80 GPA, Thompson was a member of the Dean's List in six of seven completed semesters at Memphis, and was a three-year recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal. Also a member of the Tiger Academic 30 and the Tiger 3.0 Club, Thompson has served as the team captain for the past two seasons and is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She helped in the CAAS Canned Food Drive at Thanksgiving and is the Vice President of Operations for the Sport Marketing Association at the University of Memphis. The third special award was the Elma Roane Award, which is presented annually as the top award for female student-athletes at Memphis. Women's soccer player Brittany Baldwin was named as the honoree for this year's Elma Roane Award. A member of the winningest class in program history, Baldwin helped the Lady Tiger soccer team to three-straight C-USA Championships. The exercise science major suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the NCAA tournament against Illinois in 2008, but returned this season to play in 22 of 23 matches, posting one goal and two assists. She connected on her first goal of the season on her senior night, and completed her Lady Tiger career with four goals and five assists for 13 points. A native of Collierville, Tenn., (Collierville HS), becomes the fourth overall women's soccer player (and third straight women's soccer team member) to win the Elma Roane Award
